Collagen is the most plentiful protein in the body. It’s one of the major building blocks of bones, skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Think of it as the “glue” that holds all these things together.
There are a few things that can lower the amount of collagen we produce in our bodies. Activities like extended sun exposure, excess sugar, smoking, and drinking alcohol may reduce the synthesis of collagen. We also naturally stop producing the same levels of collagen at the age of 21 for women and 25 for men.
